Ultrasound exam for muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints (musculoskeletal ultrasound exam)
Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about musculoskeletal ultrasound exams.
Q. For what injuries and symptoms are musculoskeletal ultrasound exams used?
Musculoskeletal ultrasound exams can help us determine the condition of your muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. They let us identify what areas are inflamed, injured, or ruptured.
We may use ultrasound exams for the following injuries or conditions:
- sprains
- knee or ankle ligament injuries (such as from soccer, basketball)
- muscle sprain or tearing of the thigh or lower leg
- shoulder injuries such as frozen shoulder, shoulder rotator cuff injury, and shoulder periarthritis (biceps tendinitis)
- Achilles tendonitis
- tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, baseball elbow
- tendonitis of the wrist, spring toe , De Quervain syndrome
Musculoskeletal ultrasound exams do not show bone conditions such as fractures and dislocations. On the other hand, X-rays can only show the condition of the bones, not the muscles and ligaments.

Q. How much will a musculoskeletal ultrasound exam cost?
A musculoskeletal ultrasound exam costs 500B for each area examined .
For example, the treatment fee for an ultrasound exam and physiotherapy treatment (for 1 part of your body) would be as follows:

initial visit fee: 500B

musculoskeletal ultrasound exam : 500B

consultation fee (includes medical certificate and initial medical report): 700B*

physical therapy treatment (manual therapy and ultrasound therapy): 1,600B
* If you do not need a medical certificate (e.g., for insurance) or do not wish to see a medical doctor, you will not be charged the 700B consultation fee.
Q. Can I get a musculoskeletal ultrasound exam at any J-CLINIC branch?
Yes, you can get a musculoskeletal ultrasound exam at any of our clinics: Phrom Phong, Thonglor, and Ekkamai. Please make an appointment (required).
Q. Do musculoskeletal ultrasound exams hurt?
No. There is no pain as we only place a probe on the affected area.
