Combining ultrasound and electrical stimulation for pain relief in Bangkok | J-CLINIC Physical therapy treatment
Hi, this is Kik from J-CLINIC Thonglor branch in Bangkok.
Today, I’m going to introduce you to our ultrasound and high-voltage therapy.
ultrasound and high-voltage therapy
As an effective way to relieve pain, it’s popular among people suffering pain from injuries and chronic back pain.
What is “ultrasound/high-voltage therapy”?
Ultrasound/high-voltage therapy is a combination therapy that uses (1) high-voltage electricity to loosen up superficial muscle tension and (2) ultrasound to relax the deeper muscles that can’t be reached by hand.
Many of the world’s top athletes use this type of electrotherapy after their daily practice, as part of their conditioning program.
What results can you expect?
Ultrasound/high-voltage therapy accelerates cell repair. It speeds up the healing of injuries and helps to relieve pain.
Benefits of ultrasound/high voltage therapy
What symptoms can be treated?
Ultrasound/high-voltage therapy is effective for treating sprained backs, chronic shoulder stiffness, frozen shoulders, sciatica, tendonitis, sprains, and pulled muscle(torn muscle), as well as for rehabilitation after surgery.
It’s also suitable for treating Osgood disease, shin splints, and various sports injuries common among both children and adults.
What are the key features of ultrasound/high-voltage therapy?
The combination therapy can treat deep muscles that can’t be reached by hand.
It’s also more efficient because it can apply two kinds of stimuli to the problem spots.
How is it combined with manual therapy?
Using high-performance treatment alone is good, but combining it with manual therapy can make the treatment even more effective.
Professional development: To make sure you get the best treatment, we pay attention to continually improving our therapists’ technique.
Motion & manipulation therapy combines manual techniques with electrotherapy and uses movement to loosen up joints with a reduced range of motion. Trigger points can be treated more quickly with this method.
Case studies
Many of the common symptoms we’ve mentioned in past posts can be treated using the ultrasound/high-voltage treatment device.
See how we treat back pain with a combination of electrotherapy and manual therapy.
We hope this gives you a better idea of how ultrasound/high-voltage therapy works.
If you are living with pain that you can’t get rid of because you don’t know the cause, or that you thought was an inevitable part of aging, or that can’t be relieved by surgery, do contact us for a consultation.

Post-surgery rehabilitation at J-CLINIC
Hello, my name is Sato and I run J-CLINIC, a physiotherapy and acupuncture clinic in Bangkok.
Today, I will talk about post-surgery rehabilitation. At J-CLINIC, we offer rehabilitation therapy after you have such surgeries as for herniated discs (slipped disc) or for knee injuries like anterior cruciate ligament injuries and meniscal tears.
For these types of injuries, surgery is not the end of the story. You need rehabilitation to make sure that your problems don’t recur.
Rehabilitation therapy at J-CLINIC
1. For pain or numbness in your affected areas, you’ll get a deep tissue massage to relax the muscles and high-voltage electric therapy and acupuncture to ease your pain.
2. To help you regain your range of motion in the joints, you’ll undergo motion and manipulation therapy.
3. To improve weak or stiff muscles, you’ll be shown how to do exercises to increase strength and stretches to restore muscle and joint flexibility.
Manual therapy(Deep tissue massage)
Motion & manipulation (M&M)
Our unique treatment uses movement to help loosen muscles that have stiffened into ‘trigger points’. This method allows faster release of the trigger points, and is thus most effective for treating frozen shoulders and knee pains.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture improves blood flow to the stiff muscle tissue that is causing you pain and limiting your range of motion. The improved blood flow will flush out the pain-producing substances collecting in the stiff areas. It also relieves tension in joints and muscle ligaments, giving you better a range of motion and relief from pain.
Ultrasound and high voltage therapy
Ultrasound and high voltage therapy promotes cellular repair. It speeds up healing and relieves pain.
Advice for stretching / training
After the pain goes down, we will teach you exercises that you can do at home and self-care tips to prevent your injury from recurring.
Your treatment will be adjusted to match your condition through the initial, middle, and final recovery phases.
A patient case: Rehabilitation after disc hernia surgery
Six months ago, Mr. E (male, in his 40s) suffered disc herniation and underwent surgery on his 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae.
By the time he decided to consult J-CLINIC, Mr. E was also experiencing numbness from his right buttock to the right hamstring.
After being discharged from the hospital, Mr. E went back to work. But over the next two months, his back pain gradually returned.
Mr. E told us, “I want to get rid of the pain and numbness and become physically strong enough to handle sitting for long periods of time.” We created his treatment plan based on these goals.
By the end of the three months, Mr. E ‘graduated’ from rehabilitation.
Mr. E came to J-CLINIC twice a week for two months, after which he continued therapy and rehabilitation once a week for a month.
He continues to regularly stretch and do his strength-building exercises at home, while dropping by J-CLINIC for maintenance treatment a few times a month.

What causes herniated discs and back pain? | J-CLINIC Physical therapy treatment
Hello, this is Kik from the J-CLINIC in Bangkok. Today, I will talk about J-CLINIC’s treatment for a patient suffering from post-natal back pain, who came to us after being diagnosed at a hospital as having a herniated disc(slipped disc, disc herniation).
A patient case
Since giving birth, Ms. R (37 years old, 3 years in Thailand) felt distortion in her pelvis, but because the pain wasn’t strong, she left it untreated.
One year later, Ms. R was struck with debilitating back pain that prevented her from standing up straight.
She had an MRI at a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a herniated disc.
The hospital treated her with medication (analgesics) and injections (e.g., nerve block injections), which temporarily reduced the pain. However, the pain returned, and Ms. R came to J-CLINIC for a second opinion.
Patient’s symptoms
At the time of her J-CLINIC visit, Ms. R:
Could only stand leaning towards the left side because of the pain
Had numbness on the back of both thighs
Found it difficult to sleep on her back or to walk
J-CLINIC’s diagnosis
We diagnosed Ms. R as suffering from back pain due to pelvic distortion and weakness of the abdominal muscles, rather than a herniated disc.
Not only does the pelvis open during childbirth, but it remains loosened afterwards because of the effects of hormones, which makes it easier to strain or injure muscles and ligaments.
With Ms. R, we believe her lower back was under great strain from the strenuous postures involved in holding a baby or changing diapers, while Ms. R’s abdominal muscles were weak and unable to provide adequate support.
In addition, Ms. R had hip-joint pain due to distortion of the pelvis.
Treatment
Given the causes, J-CLINIC’s treatment for Ms. R comprised:
Deep-tissue massage to relax muscle tension and adjust body balance
High-voltage electric therapy for pain relief
Pelvic correction
Taping to support the lower back
Stretches for the hip-joint area
Deep-tissue massage
High-voltage electric therapy
Pelvic correction
Taping
Ms. R came to J-CLINIC once or twice a week for three months until she recovered.
As with herniated discs, most back pain arises from weakness of the abdominal muscles. Strengthening the inner and core muscles is indispensable to tackle the root cause of pain. For postpartum moms, returning the pelvis to the correct position early is another way to prevent back pain.
